Stephen Craig
Stephen Craig (*1960 in Northern Ireland) describes himself as both an artist and an architect. His ambiguous work constantly tests the boundaries between independent sculpture and architecture. His productions flow from an artistic imagination, but they can also be used as living or exhibition space. A very important historical reference point for Craig is Mies van der Rohe and his concept of the liberation of architectural elements and the creation of transitional zones between interior and exterior space. Alberto Giacometti and his sculptural treatment of space and proportions have also been an enduring influence.
Numerous individual and group exhibitions bear witness to his multidisciplinary work, inter alia: Festspielhaus Hellerau Dresden (2000); Henry Moore Institute Leeds (2000); kunstwegen Nordhorn (1999); Kunsthaus München (1999); Overbeck-Gesellschaft, Lübeck (1999); Württembergischer Kunstverein Stuttgart (1999); documenta X (1997); Skulptur.Projekte Münster (1997).
